Scientific visit 14/12

In the context of exchanging scientific experiences between our department and the corresponding departments in public universities, a number of students from the Department of Laser and Optoelectronics Engineering at Al-Nahrain University conducted a scientific visit to the laboratories of the Department of Laser and Optoelectronics Engineering at the University of Technology on Tuesday, 14/12/2021. During the visit, the students and the delegation supervising the visit were briefed on the most important experiments and specialized laboratory equipment for the advanced study stages (the third and fourth stages).

Scientific visit 15/12

Based on the joint scientific cooperation between the scientific and engineering departments at the University of Technology, the students of the Department of Applied Sciences / Laser Science and Technology (fourth stage) conducted a scientific visit to the optical communications laboratory in our department on Wednesday, 12/15/2021. During the visit, the students were briefed on the most important laboratory experiments, including (studying the basic properties of light-emitting diode and studying the properties of semiconductor lasers) and the scientific lecture given by the assistant lecturer (Safa Salam Radhi) and in the presence of Assistant Prof. Dr. Makram Abdel Muttalib Fakhry, the head of Optoelectronics Engineering Branch.

University Festival for Student Debates

The department’s students’ team participated in the University of Technology Cultural Festival for student debates on Tuesday, 30/11/2021, in the Department of Production and Metallurgy, at the hall of the late Mr. Jassem Shehab Al-Hayani, and within the competitions of the third group. Prof. Dr. (Jassem Kazem Hammoud) the head of the department and Professor Dr. (Mohammed Jalal Abdul-Razzaq), the scientific assistant and representative of the jury from the department, the teacher, Dr. (Nebras Issam Muhammad)

Honoring Ceremony

The employees of our department, the engineer (Saddam Sabah Katheer) and the assistant head of research (Osama Zaid Faleh) were honored by the president of the university for their effective contribution to the success of the celebration that was held on the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the Iraqi state, which was held on Thursday, 9/12/2021 in the hall of the Department of Control and systems Engineering.

Lecture on scientific publishing

Our department held a workshop for teaching staff and postgraduate students (research stage) on Wednesday, 16/11/2021, and it was given by Prof. Dr. (Qusay Fadel Abdel Hamid), editor-in-chief of the Engineering and Technology Journal at the University of Technology aiming introducing the requirements of scientific publishing in the Journal of Engineering and Technology

The Phenomenon of Bullying

The Psychological Guidance and Educational Guidance Unit in the department held an awareness lecture entitled (The Phenomenon of Bullying) on Thursday, 18/11/2021 for students of the second stage/Optical Electronics Engineering Branch, in order to enhance the student’s self-confidence, as this phenomenon began to take a serious turn that leaves bad effects on the students. The reality of higher education in general and the reality of the environment in which the internal departments live in particular, because this phenomenon is a type of abuse and social violence (verbal and physical). The lecture was delivered by the assistant teacher (Roaa Shaker Mahmoud), and in the presence of the head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, the assistant professor, Dr. (Suad Mahmoud Kadhem).

Visitation to the Central Library

Under the supervision of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, second-year students in our department/Laser Engineering Branch have visited the Central Library on Wednesday, 17/11/2021.they have been introduced to the contents of all halls that includes: virtual library, systems hall, dissertation hall and reading hall) in addition, they have been informed how to search for a references (books, theses or magazines), read them and get the benefit from them.

A scientific symposium entitled 'Modern turns for Laser Applications in the Labor Market

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. (Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghabban), Laser and Optical Electronics Engineering Department have organized its scientific symposium entitled (Modern Turns of Laser Applications in the Labor Market) on Sunday, 11/21/2021, in the main hall of the Control and Systems Engineering Department , which was attended by lecturers, and university students. The head of the department, Prof. Jassim Kadhim Hmood, said in his speech: The symposium is concerned with the latest developments in the use of laser in the industrial, civil and medical fields, in addition to its use in remote monitoring devices in areas difficult to reach by human beings, and this is represented in the sensitivity to many environmental and biological variables. that are involved in many areas of life.

The symposium included two sessions, the first, chaired by Prof. Dr. Razi Jaber Shaghaith, and rapporteur by Prof. Dr. (Ali Abdl-Khaleq Abdl-Hadi), which included two lectures, the first entitled (Using laser technology in 3D printing) delivered by Prof. Dr. (Kadhim Abed hubaiter). The second, entitled “Producing 3D Models Using a Laser Scanning System,” was delivered by Professor (Ali Hamza Hilal) and Professor (Sajjad Hatem Hassan). As for the second session, chaired by Prof. Dr. (Abdullah Khudair Abbas) and rapporteur as Prof. Dr. (Suad Mahmoud Kazem), it included two lectures, the first entitled (Promising Technology: Laser in Dentistry) delivered by Ms. (Ali Hamid), and the second entitled ( Laser Applications in Aesthetic Medicine: Laser Hair Removal by Msc. Raghad Hani Muhammad

An awareness lecture entitled (Drugs... the scourge of society)

An awareness lecture has been hold for second stage student's entitled (Drugs... the scourge of society) on Monday 15/11/2021 at (10:30) Am and it was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. (Ali Abdel-Khaleq Abdel Al-Hadi), a lecturer in our department and under the supervision of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the department. The lecture included an explanation of the concept of drugs, definition of it, the reason for taking it, the damages resulting from it, the pathological signs that it leaves, ways to prevent this deadly disease and the stages of treatment.

MSc defense (Isshaq Saadoon Najim)

The thesis of the master's student (Isshaq Saadoon Najim) specializing in laser engineering was defense entitled:

( Study the effect of annealing temperature on the physical properties for CuS nano films prepared by Pulsed Laser Deposition )

On thirsday, 11/11/2021, the thesis was accepted and the student was awarded a master's degree.

discussion seminars for Postgraduate students (PhD)

A discussion seminars has been hold for Postgraduate students (PhD) / laser engineering branch in our department inside the discussion hall on 7/10/2021.
The five-member committees that follow up the students’ research project plan by discussing the topic of the (Seminar) with the students.
The committee expressed its observations and evaluation, namely:
-PhD student(Aseel Abdul-Ameer Shaghati) on her research named:(Analysis and design of pulsed fiber laser based on nanomaterial saturable absorber for telecommunication systems)

-PhD student(Ahmeed Saleem Falih) on her research named:(Performance enhancement of photoconductive antenna- based terahertz generation and detection using nanotechnology)

-PhD student(Haneen Jabar Dhiaa) on her research named:(Design and implementation of photodiode devices using laser technique)

-PhD student(Ruaa Habeeb Abass) on her research named:(Metallic nanoparticles and laser technique for dental caries treatment)

-PhD student(Qamer Qassim Muhammed) on her research named:`(Utilizing the laser rangefinder equipment and digital imaging system 3D photogrammetric of archaeological sites)

-PhD student(Hadeel Jameel Omran) on her research named:(Synthesis and characterization of Nanomaterials produced by Laser induced plasma and plasma jet techniques.)

Within the scientific activities of our department Lec. Dr. (Shams Basil Ali), one of the faculty members / director of the Division of Quality Assurance and
University Performance, has published a scientific research marked: (Models for sensing by nanowire networks: application to organic vapor detection by multiwall carbon nanotube – DNA films) in association with foreign researchers from the United Kingdom and Nigeria within the (Nanotechnology) magazine indexed in Clarivate
with a (203 h-index) and within the first quarter.

Lec. Dr. Shams Basil Ali had been participated in the session named (digital teaching course) to assess the skills acquired in learning and e-learning and blended
learning, she was graded with (excellent) and she got (10) out of a total of (66) participants, the session was held in the Multimedia and E-Learning Center
